Grand alliances will not help India’s Opposition beat Modi | #108WordEdit

Speaking to Citti Media, Prof. Sandeep Shastri, a renowned psephologist and political scientist, made astute observations on present-day polity in India. He analysed the recently passed 127th Amendment to the Indian Constitution, which empowered states to determine who can be categorised as Other Backward Class (OBC). The government enjoyed a full mandate in the House, as the Opposition’s objection (to the Bill) was limited.

In the context of the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh, Prof. Shastri remarked that merely forming an alliance will not accrue electoral advantage to any political party. He further explains how this will impact the 2022 Uttar Pradesh polls.
